There are so many ways to save the world, Tyler Chanel has taken on this challenge by doing all she can to invest in educating others about sustainability, thrifting, and natural ways to help create a more eco-friendly way of living.
Not only does she teach others about the importance of being earth friendly, she actually lives it out in her everyday life.
Tyler Chanel is the creator of Thrifts & Tangles a website that documents her natural hair journey and love for thrifted fashion.
Originally from Las Vegas, she moved to Los Angeles after receiving her bachelor’s degree to pursue a career in modeling. A career that she loves almost as much as thrifting.
As a sustainability champion (even her recent wedding was sustainable) she has had the opportunity to sign with an ethical modeling agency that connects her to brands aligned with her values.
I had the opportunity to chat with Tyler about love, life, and of course thrifting!
On life

You’re an influencer, model, have a full-time job, blogger, and have a family and you seem to do it all so effortlessly. What are some pointers you can give to other young entrepreneurs that may feel overwhelmed?
Give yourself permission to rest and find a group for support. Having other entrepreneurs to talk to, vent to, and brainstorm with makes the process a lot more enjoyable.
Also, use software to stay organized! I use Google Calendar to keep track of all of my important deadlines and I use Notion to keep track of all my ideas.
What does success look like to you? Do you feel that you are successful at this point in your life/career?
Success to me is being happy with where I am in life. It means I chased my dreams without fear of failing and stepped outside of my comfort zone at some point in time. It’s also not giving up on something I think is important just because others tell you to.
On Love

What are some tips you would give another couple about successfully planning a sustainable wedding?
Figure out what matters most to you as a couple. For example, I was focused on keeping costs low and not buying a lot of new items, so I thrifted as many things as possible!
The wedding industry can be really wasteful, so figure out where you want to reduce waste and go from there. One thing we did was opt for paperless invites. It kept costs low and was better for the environment.

On Saving the World

What are some pointers for cultivating a more sustainable life?
Do a trash audit and see what disposable items you are throwing away! Make a mental note and ask yourself if there is a more cost-effective reusable option you could swap to. Start shopping secondhand first! Meaning going to the thrift store to look for items before heading to Target or to the mall.
Why is living a sustainable & eco-friendly life important to you?
Being mindful of my negative impact on people and the planet is so important to me! Whether that’s through my purchases or my behavior, I think it’s important to understand how my actions impact this planet and its creatures. There’s so much beauty on this planet and I think it’s our job to preserve that beauty.
