Even when thrifting we should be conscious of our purchases. This allows us to not be wasteful with money and our time.
Many times, when we purchase items because they are cheap or we just ‘kinda’ like them, they end up sitting in our closets with tags on. And in this case, it will probably end up right back at the thrift store.
Make sure you ask yourself these 6 questions before thrifting an item to prevent waste and a poor use of closet space!
1. Do I love it
Before you purchase that item ask yourself if you really love it. Many of us have closets filled with clothes that still have the tags on them.
We buy things because they are on sale and at the time what we thought was a great deal. But is it really such a great deal if we don’t plan on wearing it.
The thrift store is full of great deals, but it really isn’t if the item is just going to clutter up your home.

2. Do I need it?
Decide if the item is something you truly need before purchasing it.
I personally have bought multiples of items because I forgot I already had it or something similar. That is why it is great to know what you have in your closet already.

3. Will I regret it – either buying it or not
There is a saying that states, nothing haunts us like the things we didn’t buy and it’s so true.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve put items back and regretted it later as I’m still thinking about it weeks and sometimes even months after. And on the other hand, I’ve purchased items that I look at months later and wonder how they ever made it into my closet.
Be picky when thrift shopping, because it is so easy to spend a little bit of money and walk away with a ton of things. Make sure you truly reflect on if there will be buyers remorse with a purchase.

4. Is it in my budget?
If you have a budget then make sure you stick to it when shopping.
Use cash when shopping to help you stick to your budget, that way you won’t go over your predetermined spending limit.
Having and sticking to budgets is important, so don’t let that thrift store find throw you. Most likely it will pop up later in life when your budget is a bit more flexible.
5. Will it go well with my wardrobe?
There are times that we pick up pieces that don’t fit our style because they are cheap. If this is the case then you’ll probably want to pass on this item.
However, if it is a one of a kind piece that you will find something to wear with it then go for it.
Remember to ask yourself these questions prior to purchasing an item at the thrift store. It will work wonders on keeping your closet free of items that sit their for months or years never to be worn.
